The Norwegian Woods Scarf or Shawl is designed for lace weight yarn and takes 470 yards of yarn for the scarf (shown) and 900 yards for the shawl. I used a US 3 (3.25 mm) needle for both samples of this project.

The scarf shown above is done in Handmaiden Sea Silk in the periwinkle colorway. This scarf required two skeins. The pattern features optional beads along the edge. The scarf requires 179 size 8/0 beads; the shawl, 251 beads. For the samples, I used Toho 3x3 mm cubes, which are about the same size as 8/0 seed beads, available from Earth Faire.

Below is a shawl size Norwegian Woods done in Malabrigo Lace Yarn in the purple mystery colorway. The shawl required two skeins.

Dimensions: 47 " wide at top, 24" from top to tip (scarf)
66" wide at top, 33" from top to tip (shawl)
